2021 Enfold - St Mary's, Sellindge
Take a cup from the stack, fill it with water, drink and as we cannot put the cup down, we throw the container away, leaving our D.N.A. as a trace upon the plastic. This habitual act of rehydration is repeated throughout the urban world.
The cyclical nature of this repetitious act, mirrors the meteorological cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection with the particles of our human/plastic impact now left in every waterdrop.
With this installation I invite the viewer to drink and then attach their cup with sellotape to another, so they leave their mark while adding and reshaping the sculpture throughout the exhibition. There is a risk of gradual deformation, perhaps destruction so periodically I lift the string of cones back: replicating evaporation; leaving the viewer to consider the impact and accountability of our actions, choices and ultimately the effect of plastic on our health and the environment
