I Will Huff & I Will Puff at the Winter Sculpture Park, Thamesmead, London . . . is a gleaming, elevated tiny house standing on steel legs, wrapped in cascading compact discs that shimmer like scales. A construction that comments wryly on the design of housing today; is it fit for flooding, extreme heat and climate change? Stand inside and glimpse the cd era: a relic of consumer culture. Another mass produced product that saturated the market, economic to produce, non-recyclable and durable. Now a discarded object it can substitute raw materials like slate. Having been manufactured, unlike brick tiles, the carbon footprint now is negatable and by harvesting the material we take away some of the strain on landfill and reduce environmental pollution. |
