By referring back to the Christian miracle of the feeding of the multitude at the Sea of Galilee this work raises uncomfortable questions about Europe's fundamental beliefs amid the context of our implicit involvement, as democratic accomplices, to the complacency and detachment we have to others suffering from persecution, famine, exploitation, war or trafficking, in order to safe-guard our own way of life.
The innocence of the game of Grandma's footsteps is contrasted with the real dangers faced by those who seek refuge in the west. The grim reality of having to trust others exposes their vulnerability to being exploited in their bid to enter the West from the Middle East or Africa.
